So today, Christian came in with an orange sweater that made him look like he stepped off of the Starship Enterprise. It turns out that he was sick so the presenters had to be relatively quicker than usual. They were both enjoyable and informative. The first presentation had me placed in Klein’s group where we learned how to make popping origami frogs. She led with a video on how to make them and then led a demonstration, giving us a chance to ask questions about the process. I definitely asked a few for clarification. By the end of our time together we came back with a bunch of finished frogs to hop about our tables. Klein’s demonstration was ultimately one that worked the best in comparison to demonstrations that only used either the video or a teacher’s demonstration of the process. It was mentioned in Klein’s group that having an emotional connection with the students is important when teaching them. Christian pointed out how getting students with troubled backgrounds to talk with each other can help them too.
The second group presenting this day was Celine’s. They talked about the use of Google Classroom as an educational technology. I found it very interesting and useful as an option similar to Google docs but with a more flexible assignment system.
Both of these presentations gave me something to take with me into the classroom, an attitude to handling technology and a communication tool to help with assignments. Both will go into my tool box and I hope to bring them out when my placement starts.
