I really liked how group A tied their lesson in with chapter 1 of Never send a human to do a machine’s job. They split the class up so that some of us learnt origami by watching a YouTube video, some by the teachers and my group learnt origami by watching a YouTube tutorial and having Kleine there to guide us. After coming together as a class and discussing how we enjoyed the lesson, it was concluded that we learned best by having both the teacher and the use of technology as “instructors”.
The group concluded their lesson with a quote “With high value in a learning ecosystem, neither technology nor teachers could or should be replaced by the other… teachers and technology are two different agencies occupying specific niches, serving different purposes for learners”. As an individual entering the teaching career, it is crucial to remember my role as a teacher. I am there to teach, listen, help and support my students’ growth and learning. As a teacher, I acknowledge that I will have my limitations and technology will have its benefits and therefore, I need to incorporate technology in the classroom as an aid, not as a replacement. Technology can be used to teach skills repetitively, saving teacher many hours and it can make learning more enjoyable for the students. However, being in a classroom setting with a teacher, children not only reap the benefits of having someone there to answer their questions right away, for example, but they also learn how to socialize. Students learn how to make and maintain friendships, interact with adults, problem solve which shows that teachers are irreplaceable.
