Think technology more than just tools

-Guoying Zhang

Technology has been used in schools and classrooms for a long time now, most people including me would still think technology as a teaching or learning tool in the classrooms, and nothing used beyond that. For sure that most of our teachers did not use technology for its best benefit. many teachers, and parents worried about technology may bring bad influence more than its benefits, distractions, inappropriate content on the Internet, cyber bullying…there are many issues that diverted away our attention on how to use technology truly benefit students.

like what Chapter 2 stated, treating technology only as tools and students mainly as consumers, cannot help us benefit  from the power and influence that today’s digital media offers us. we should focus on how to use technology to cultivate learners’  autonomy, creativity, and responsibility  for their own learning, view students as creators,  producers, and leaders in the new digital world. Teachers should encourage students to discover and  pursue their own interests, design  and lead their learning by selecting technologies that are appropriate for each learner. schools must find a better way to balance the need for security and the need to provide the best learning opportunities for students. of course, first, we need to build a healthy relationship with technology so that technology will not empower us with those issues we are facing now in most schools.
