Week of February 26th – Claudia Argento
Today as educators, we are lucky enough to be able to find and share our ideas online, from/with people all over the world. One of the greatest websites/apps I think many teachers would say to ever exist is Pinterest. In every classroom that I have been in (for placement), through my undergrad and teachers college, every teacher has always mentioned Pinterest to me. It was because of them that I created an account to help me with activities that I needed to incorporate throughout my undergrad placements. From that moment on, I realized how incredible of a tool it is and the endless amount of ideas there are. The class I am in for this semesters placement had tons of the students’ artwork posted and I commented on how beautiful they were and my teacher replied “I can not do art well, so I take all these ideas from Pinterest”. I related so much to this because I also am not very creative but I know what Pinterest has in terms of art ideas for children.
In class this week a group provided the class with a useful presentation on Pinterest. They showed us how to search for ideas and how to “pin” items to our boards. We did a group activity where we each had a subject and we had to find lessons, activities and projects for that subject and then pin it to the appropriate board. After this presentation I think many of the students felt more comfortable using Pinterest and what we can find on there once we become teachers. This app is so easy to use and easily accessible on both a computer and a smart phone which is fantastic for teachers and they should take advantage of what is out there.
