Through the advice of Paul Davis, we learned that every time we use the internet of a social media platform, we leave a trail, and every time we save something in the cloud there is a physical location in which this information is being saved, that it is not actually in the sky and untouchable. Young people today are growing up with the internet in their hand, before they are mature enough the fully understand the consequences it can have on their lives. With all the benefits technology brings there are also many aspects of it that we need to make understood especially by the younger population. Some of the concerns include fraud, scams, cyber bullying as well as making sure what we post is appropriate because once it is posted it is out there for ever.
The tech team presented to the class an online game that puts key lesson of digital citizenship and online safety throughout the game, it is called Interland – Be Internet Awesome. This is a fun and engaging way for students to learn about internet safety through hand on practice, which I would like to use in my classroom when teaching online safety.
